Dr. David H. Kim is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon practicing in Long Beach. He graduated UCLA with B.S. in Biology prior to obtaining his D.D.S. from Columbia University, School of Dental & Oral Surgery. At Columbia, Dr. Kim received many awards including OKU Honor Fraternity, Columbia General Scholarship Fund, Divisional Excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Award, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Dental Student Award, AAOMS Dental Implant Award, American Society of Dental Anesthesiologist Award, and New York State Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Outstanding Student Award. Subsequently, Dr. Kim graduated with his M.D. from Hahnemann University, School of Medicine in Philadelphia prior to completing his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency. During his six year residency at Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Kim finished two formal years of general surgery residency and the rest of the years training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, head & neck cancer surgery, plastic & reconstructive surgery, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology. Furthermore, Dr. Kim trained in cosmetic facial surgery from LSU New Orleans and medical esthetics from the Esthetic Skin Institute in Florida.
Upon his return to California, Dr. Kim joined the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center. As a staff maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Kim trained Head & Neck Surgery residents from U.C. San Diego, School of Medicine and the Naval Hospital of San Diego in facial trauma, oral pathology & cancer surgery, reconstructive maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, cleft palate and craniofacial surgery. With a desire to expand his expertise outside of Kaiser and to perform more dentoalveolar surgeries, dental implants and related bone graft surgeries, and office general anesthesia, Dr. Kim acquired a private practice in Long Beach. In addition to maintaining a very busy full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery and medical esthetics practice (Botox, Restylane, etc.), he gives monthly study club lectures to his referring dentists. Dr. Kim is a Continuing Education Provider from the Dental Board of California. He has given numerous presentations and publications in the field of oral & maxillofacial surgery and cosmetic facial surgery.
Dr. Kim is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellow of American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Fellow of American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Fellow of International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Member of California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Member of American Cleft Palate – Craniofacial Association, Member of AMA, ADA, Los Angeles County Medical Association, Harbor Dental Society, and KADA-SC. He is licensed by the Medical Board of California as a physician & surgeon, Dental Board of California as a specialist in oral & maxillofacial surgery and as a general anesthesia provider.
